FAQs

How do I get there?
There are numerous direct flights from most UK airports, and most European airports. We also offer one way trips which allows you even more choice of flights.

How do I find the yacht?
Before your arrival we will send you detailed information which includes the location of which pontoon the yacht is moored at, plus details of how to get to Puerto Calero.

What are your office hours?
We do not have office hours we work to meet the needs of our clients.
We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Transfers and arriving

How far is the base from the airport?
It is about a 15 minute taxi ride to the marina.

What is the taxi fare?
We do not offer personal pick up service as we feel it is important to support the tourist infrastructure provided by the island, there are many taxis outside the terminal.  The average cost of the taxi is €15.

What should we expect when we arrive on the boat?
We undertake the usual paperwork, including the security deposit, chart briefing, inventory check and boat/safety briefing including any additional requests from you.

Where do we get water and fuel?
The yacht is provided with a full tank of diesel and both water tanks will be full. At the marinas water is available. Hopefully you will not need any more fuel!

Yacht Charter equipment

Is there a spinnaker?
No we offer a cruising chute complete with snuffer at an additional cost; we chose this as we have found it easy to use with two people.

What safety equipment is provided?
The boat is fully equipped with the all safety equipment needed, and some of this is itemised on this website and the rest is included on the inventory, which we can email to you before arrival.

What is included in the welcome pack?

  • 5 litres of drinking water
  • Tea, coffee and sugar
  • 1 litre of milk
  • Bin liners
  • Washing up liquid
  • Kitchen towel
  • Toilet rolls
  • Matches
  • Bread
  • Condiments.
  • A bottle of Red and White wine
  • Canarian rum. (a perfect sundowner)

Can you provision the yacht?
Yes we can provision the yacht for you using our provision list, which also allows requests for favourite items, which we will try and get for you. We will email a provisioning list with prices upon request. We will ensure all provisioning is packed onto the yacht, ready for your arrival. We do not charge for this service.

Where can we provision from?
The marinas have a supermarket close by, if not you can catch a taxi to a larger supermarket. We can give you details of these, alternatively we can do mid charter provisioning to any of Lanzarote marinas.

Is the water safe to drink?
The water on Lanzarote is desalinated, so we recommend you use bottled water which is cheap and can be bought in 5 litre bottles

Sailing

Why would you charter one way?
Because the Canary Islands lie in the north east trade winds belt, Lanzarote being the most northerly island is ideally situated to sail with these trade winds to Gran Canaria and/or Tenerife. For certain sailors these islands may offer more flights.

What are the best times of the year to charter?
The Canary islands offer all year sailing, however there are many festivals and sailing events that occur on the islands, some of which you my wish to enjoy whilst here. We can send you a detailed list of this on request.

Are there marina fees?
Bareboat charters pay for marina fees at any marinas you visit , other than Puerto Calero which is our base and is therefore included in the charter price. Prices range from approx €11 – €35 per night.

Skippered charters include marina fees.

What specific sailing skills must we have for the islands?

  • Anchoring
  • Navigation
  • One other experienced crew member other than the Skipper

What Qualifications and experience are needed?
Spanish law requires a minimum of I.C.C sailing qualification to sail in the Canary Islands. If you hold a RYA Day skipper qualification you can obtain an I.C.C from the RYA with no additional examinations. As part of our booking process we require a sailing resume, which details your sailing experience.

General

What is the yacht security deposit?
For all bareboat yacht charters you are required to pay a security deposit, This is equal to the amount of excess on the yacht’s insurance policy. This covers loss or damage to the yacht and/or her equipment, is payable on embarkation and will be refunded in full on return of the yacht and her equipment in good order.
You may opt instead to insure the security deposit, with a non-refundable premium or damage waiver, this is an alternative to the Security Deposit, not an additional charge, and has a lower refundable Security Deposit. If you opt for this method payment is required in advance of embarkation, at the same time as the charter balance payment. This will be noted on your invoice.

What is the booking process?
When we confirm availability for your provisional booking we will reserve your holiday dates for 7 days, this allows time for you to complete and return your booking form and book your flights, and pay the deposit which will secure your booking.

What is your cancellation policy?
The deposit is non refundable and the full charter cost is non refundable if cancellation is within 60 days prior to your charter.
If over 60 days a cancellation fee may be charged.

How do I book a Charter or Day trip?
Please contact us to discuss your needs and availability of dates. You can fill in our website enquiry form or contact us by telephone

What bedding do you provide?
We provide sheets, duvets and 4 pillows for each cabin per a week. Therefore you get two sets for a two week charter. We will change these mid charter for you if you wish, at any one of the Lanzarote marinas. Your cabins will be made up for your arrival. We also provide hand, bath and beach towels so you do not have to bring any of these with you.

Do we have to clean the boat?
We clean the boat before and after every charter, so we do not expect you to do this, however we do request that all rubbish is removed and the yacht is left tidy. During a two week charter we will also clean the boat inside and out for no additional cost at any one of the Lanzarote marinas. Please note we will require notice on this and 4 hours to clean the boat.

Is there any guidance on the boat?
We provide a comprehensive yacht manual; this gives details on equipment plus yacht etiquette.

Is there WIFI available?
Yes, Puerto Calero offers free internet access through wireless you just need to bring your laptop.

What day of the week does the charter start?
We do not have set charter times as many of the flights into Lanzarote vary, we therefore start and end charters to the clients needs depending on the bookings we have. We will try and accommodate your requirements. This means that you are not sitting around with luggage waiting hours for your flight.

Why such a personal service?
We have been on many yacht charters all over the world, with many different companies and what we wanted our charter to offer was all the things we would expect ourselves, clean and well equipped yacht, no hidden extras, to feel safe, and know that the yacht is well maintained and everything works. We would also like to arrive and depart as near to our flight times as possible and feel that our holiday was tailor made for us. We have considered all of our needs from our experiences as a short handed crew with a young child on board and aim to provide a service to meet this level of expectation.
